Freelancing is thrilling. But taking the leap to solopreneurship can be intimidating. Some people fall victim to being their own worst critic and get frustrated with no supervisor or peers to help bolster their confidence. Distractions are everywhere, threatening to knock you from your path.
The easiest way to stop dreaming and doubting is to start *doing*. We’ve created a six-step Personal Do List to give your transformation structure and purpose. Each step combines a mindset and a motto to guide your path to become a successful Fiverr doer.
1. I could do this.
Think about not just what you want to do, but what you can do well. Do you want to write? Great! But what can you write? Clients want social copy, blog posts, advertisements, technical guides, and website content, just to name a few business needs. You don’t have to write them all to succeed, but you should experiment. Find out what flows from your fingers, what satisfies your creative impulses and what engages your audience. Find ways to put your work in front of people and listen carefully to their feedback.
2. I should do this.
Think of the should step as identifying your gifts. Are you so good at persuasion and explanation that you think you could convince a cow to play the harmonica? Then focus your business there, but think about why someone else should turn to you for that kind of writing. Research similar services to understand service providers and their clients. A persuasive writer can make a splash crafting television and radio ads, but there are also new, emerging digital channels and formats to explore. There’s great demand for clear, compelling scripts for video promos attached to crowdfunding campaigns, product launches, and personal services. Find your should where the customers are.
3. I would do this.
For our example, you’re a writer who will offer two Gigs: one for product promotions, another for crowdfunding pitches. In this step, ask yourself what needs to happen to make your freelance plans stick. Are you able to create an appropriate work environment for yourself? If you plan to work from home, are there so many distractions and obligations in your life that your freelance work could suffer? Are you able to dedicate enough time to earn the living you desire? It’s important to visualize not just what your work would be, but what a healthy work environment would look like.
4. I will do this.
You haven’t truly decided you will become a doer unless you support your ambition with a detailed plan. For every Fiverr Gig you dream up, consider:
- How much it will cost?
- What will be included in my Gig package?
- What extras you will offer?
- What information you need to request from the client?
- How long it will take to deliver?
- In what form(s) it will be delivered?
That’s a minimum amount of planning for any Gig. For your particular niche, ask yourself as a customer what you would need to know before considering a seller.
5. I can do this.
You really can! But you’ve probably been planning with nagging doubts in the back of your mind. Maybe you exaggerated your self-discipline or sold yourself short because you don’t think your work is valuable enough to command a higher price. So tear your plan apart and go back through it piece by piece. At every step, tell yourself, “I can do this!” and see how that affects the plan.
6. I do this.
The next steps are easy. Sign up. Download the Fiverr app on your phone. Put your plan into motion and activate your Fiverr Gigs. Go forth and do. You’ve got this!
