Use the Holidays to Build on Existing Relationships

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and ‘tis also the season to be proactive in building connections!

The holiday season is a time of joy, but it is also a very social time, when people are gathering and reaching out to each other to send good wishes and catch up on what’s happened the last year.

This is a great opportunity for you to do the same in your business. Whether strengthening a pre-existing relationship or building new connections, and whether you’re communicating with customers, vendors or potential clients, here’s a few tips for how to make the holiday season a time of productive networking.

Potential Customers

When communicating with potential customers, it’s all about the outreach. Social media holiday campaigns are key for attracting new business. The holidays are all about shopping, so make your campaigns actionable, give potential customers the opportunity to say “yes”, including by offering exclusive discounts to new customers. It’s not all about the hard sell though. Show your potential customers what your company culture is all about with fun holiday-themed graphics and pictures.

Past Customers

The holidays are the perfect opportunity to reach out to everybody who has ever purchased from you with a fun and light-hearted holiday greeting card. If you can make the cards more personalized, then that’s all the better, but depending on how big your database is it may be more or less feasible.

The most important thing is to show them that you remember them, remind them that your business is there and happy to work with them, and of course send a “happy holidays” greeting that will bring them a smile. If you’re able to, you can also have a holiday gift for past customers. It can be something digital, like a coupon, or something physical with your logo on it.

Clients

Just because somebody is giving you regular business doesn’t mean that you can forget about them! The last thing you want to do is take your current clients for granted. Remember, their business is not guaranteed. Take a moment to reach out to your most regular customers personally with a holiday greeting.

It can be a (real or virtual) card or a written-out email, but make it as personal as possible. It is their regular business; trust in you; and likely recommendations to others that keeps your business growing. If you can offer them a gift beyond a holiday saving’s coupon, such as an item with your logo – especially one that is useful – then even better.

Vendors

Are there people that you buy from who help make your business run smoothly? Don’t forget to thank them this holiday season! In addition to a holiday greetings card, you should thank them outright for all of the hard work they do. There’s nothing like showing a vendor how appreciated they are to build stronger connections that can be beneficial to both of your businesses.

The main thing about using the holidays to build stronger connections is to remember to make people feel like you’re thinking of them this season. Whether it’s showing potential customers how you can help them, reminding past customers that you are there should they need anything in the future, or showing clients and vendors how much they are appreciated throughout the year. The key is always to take a moment and show you care, and that’s holiday cheer that will pay off.
