Rever B. Domina (a “radio name”), known on Fiverr as Reverbdominatio, has worked in the radio and audio production industry for more than 25 years. Now he’s selling his services fulltime on Fiverr, and in his words, he’s “a crazy Fiverr evangelist!” Why? Because Fiverr brought him back from the brink of bankruptcy! In addition to this amazing story, he’s now doing so well on Fiverr that we offer heartfelt congratulations to Reverbdominatio, our latest Super Seller!
Rever B.’s Fiverr Journey
Years ago, in my early twenties, I worked in radio as an on-air personality. I also did a ton of production work. Over the course of four years, my voice was in thousands of local radio ads in the small and mid-sized markets that I worked in. However the pay was terrible, so I ventured into other areas of work that paid better, and things were good…until the economy crashed.
At the age of 46, I suddenly found myself pretty much at the same place I was at the age of 23: broke, without a career, and desperately searching for a way to better my situation. But now I was also facing bankruptcy.
Things got so bad I had to move my family in with my parents in a very rural area of southeast Arizona just to keep food on the table. Three generations in a household has its challenges, but it was also a blessing in that my wife and I could help my mom and dad, who are in their seventies.
Still, jobs are very scarce in rural areas, and the best paying job I could find was a salaried position at an insurance agency 30 miles away. But the job required 45 hours per week and paid poorly. I knew there had to be something else out there, so I began scouring the internet to find a way to work from home.
In April of 2014, I stumbled upon Fiverr and a ray of hope broke through. I immediately recorded a demo audio sample, wrapped it up in a video, and uploaded it. It took about five days before I had an order. I think I delivered that order in about fifteen minutes. It was a voiceover for an explainer video that was being produced by another Fiverr seller for one of his buyers. He loved the work and placed five or six more orders over the course of the next week.
The same thing happened with another video producer. His regular voiceover talent was unavailable and he found me. He placed an order, and I had it to him in twelve minutes. He ordered again… and again… and again.
Those two video producers quickly put me on the Fiverr radar and orders started pouring in. My focus was to deliver a great product as fast as possible and do free re-records if necessary to make sure everything was just right. In other words, my focus was 100 percent on customer service and over-delivering, and the result is that most of my business is from repeat customers.
Within two months of being on Fiverr, I was no longer facing bankruptcy, and each month I am making at least triple what the insurance agency was going to be paying me. Plus, I have no gas expenses because I walk about thirty feet from my bedroom to my studio… and I get to set my own hours.
Within three months, I was a Top Rated Seller, and as of today, I have been on Fiverr almost seven months and have processed a little over 1,700 orders with an average price well above $5.
Advice for Newcomers
The customer is always right. You are there to serve them. Work fast. Communicate all through the process. Remind them that if there are issues, they should click the “request a modification” button. Treat every project as if your livelihood depends on it… because it does.
The Impact of Fiverr
People have asked why I work on Fiverr and not outside of it. My response is, “Have you ever paid for pay-per-click? Have you ever tried to show up at the top of Google not only locally, but nationally and internationally? Have you ever tried to organize a business, track your finances, manage advertising, and actually produce a product at the same time? Let me tell you, 20 percent off the top is way less than it would cost me in advertising to get a tenth of the exposure. Plus the way things are laid out for me on Fiverr, each day’s work is automatically prioritized, and they keep making it better and better. I have zero overhead. I pay nothing out of pocket for advertising. Fiverr only make money if they help me to get business. It’s a win-win-win situation! I win, Fiverr wins, and most important, my customers win because I am able to charge less because I’m not spending money on advertising.”
Fiverr rescued me from bankruptcy, and I am once more providing for my family. It’s given us a new beginning, and for that I am very thankful.
