For a long time, she was that girl, the quietly frightening apparition who crawled out of the television in The Ring. Then somehow things got weirder—the notoriously reclusive Samara has recently come out of hiding to start up a jewelry business on Fiverr. While getting a custom ring from Samara will likely include some bizarre email interactions, Samara’s work has captured the attention of fashionistas and artists around the world.
What made you come out of hiding after so long? And why jewelry?
I like rings. I like circles. Did I tell you about my time in the well? This is why I like circles.
Um, no, you didn’t tell us, but we saw the movie… Ummm, tell us about your designs. Where do you get your inspiration?
Death. The circle of existence. The screams of innocent souls as they glimpse the abyss. These are the things that inspire me.
So, would you consider yourself a goth designer?
I am not familiar with the term.
Tell us about your process. How do you work with clients?
My job with Fiverr® has introduced me to many souls. I enjoy making them things. I enjoy talking to them looking into their souls and learning their fears and desires. This is where I get my inspiration.
I went a long time without talking to anyone when I was young, so I am adjusting. I do like to work alone.
Sounds… artistic. What’s next for you?
I mostly work online. I’d like to crawl my way offline to have a shop where I can see people, touch them and not only interact through cables.
