For much of the globe 2016 couldn’t end fast enough, but for those who have a finger on the pulse of the growing Gig Economy, 2016 was a year of innovative trends and major shifts in how digital business is conducted. So while there are many reasons to be excited for 2017, we focused on what will happen this year in the global Gig Economy. Will robots take over the world? Will all of our social media knowledge be turned on its head? What will it mean to be an entrepreneur in 2017? Read on to find out what the web is predicting for 2017.
Mission-Based Entrepreneurship Will Grow
Entrepreneurship can be extremely fulfilling for the right person, but more and more people are finding that they want to give something back to society as they grow their business. As a result, there has been a growth in mission-based businesses which integrate social justice values into the fabric of their operations. We predict that 2017 will bring a boom in mission-based businesses which will focus more on making an impact than on using their mission as a marketing pitch. Check out this interview with one mission-driven entrepreneur to see what she says about how businesses can do good while growing.
Companies Will Leave Their Boxes Behind
With social media so ingrained into our everyday lives, we predict that 2017 will see companies using media methodology in innovative and unexpected ways. We got a sneak preview of how companies might start to surprise us with their use of media and marketing in 2016 with these campaigns that caught us off guard (in a good way).
Small Businesses Will Invest More in Tech
The wonderful thing about the internet is the incredible array of free resources available to businesses of all sizes. These resources have enabled many entrepreneurs to upgrade their marketing, increase their capacity, and provide better service to their customers. However, we predict that 2017 will see businesses – even small businesses – invest more money in high-quality technology. With consumer standards constantly rising, small businesses and entrepreneurs are likely to find themselves needing to cough up more cash in order to stay competitive. However, we also predict that these investments will produce better returns and will help those businesses grow beyond where free tools could take them.
Robots Will Take Over… Sort Of
You may not have even noticed, but robots are everywhere these days and it seems that in 2017 their presence only stands to increase. Basic technological services which we already take for granted, such as voice-recognition-based tech, reveals just how quickly we can begin to rely on robots for our everyday tasks. With the growing success of robot technology in 2016, we predict that 2017 will see the robot revolution progress even further as AI continues to simplify our lives and make it easier to get things done.
Relationships Will Become More Important
With the rise in robot tech, the growth of the Gig Economy, and the increasing amount of time that we all spend connected to our devices, human relationships have fallen by the wayside. However, there simply is no replacement for human interaction and insight. We may spend more time staring at a screen in 2017, but we will value peer-to-peer relationships more than ever. Mentors will become a key component of learning those little tricks for success that technology just can’t accomplish.
Social Media Marketing Will Shift
Just when we think we’ve got it all figured out, 2017 seems poised to be the year when social media marketing trends will shift in new, innovative and unexpected ways. Some of these shifts may be a result of changes in social media’s very infrastructure if the teams at Facebook, Google and Twitter decide to tweak with how things are run. There might also be a shift in consumer expectations as they begin to tire of traditional media marketing.
