Adam Harrington created Tuggo, a water-weighted dog toy that has already won several awards, including PetSmart’s 2014 Innovation Station award. As of July 2015 Tuggo will be sold in all PetSmart stores. When Adam started, he had no budget for marketing, so he turned to Fiverr® to help grow his business rapidly without losing financial control over it.
How we got started
One Sunday afternoon our dog Hailey, a 90-pound boxer, was playing with a bowling ball he found in our front yard. Watching her play, I could tell she was frustrated at not being able to bite the ball. I asked my dad to drill a hole through the bowling ball so I could add a rope. After that, Hailey dragged the ball all over the yard. We knew we had a great idea for a toy, but since we couldn’t ship everyone a bowling ball, we came up with the idea to use a hollow plastic ball that could be filled with water. Tuggo was born. In the first year after the launch of the product, we sold more than $600,000 worth of Tuggos, and in July, Tuggo will start appearing in all PetSmart locations.
I started using Fiverr because I had no choice
I did not have any marketing budget for graphic design. All my money went for inventory, patents, and trade shows. I found Fiverr on Alexa while looking for how I could use some of the top 1,000 sites to help my business. It was only $5.00 to give Fiverr a try, so I used it to develop my logo.
I loved the result, and now when I’m at trade shows, I’m always asking people what they think I paid for my logo. They usually guess between $5,000 and $10,000. And they usually won’t believe I paid only $5.00 for it until I show them Fiverr. Since developing the logo, we have used Fiverr for almost every graphic design project including business cards, flyers, and even packaging design.
My favorite designer is Thetwo. He is hands down the best seller I have ever used. Half the time I don’t even make sense when I’m trying to explain what I need done, but somehow he figures it out and comes back with the perfect flyer.
Fiverr is an important reason my company has made it as far as it has
Fiverr has helped me keep 100 percent ownership of Tuggo. And even though I now have a marketing budget, I still use Fiverr. Why? I have built relationships with sellers who know what I need, and I can get anything I need done in less than 24 hours. On top of that, Fiverr saves me hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now I am expanding my business and am using Fiverr designers to make STL files of the new products we are designing so I can print with a 3D printer.
The amount of money a company can save using Fiverr is tremendous. You can get someone with years of experience without having to put them on your payroll. And Fiverr is not like other sites where you are risking hundreds of dollars or more to see what a designer can do with a simple graphic idea you have. You are only risking $5.00. And if you aren’t completely satisfied, you can ask for another version or simply try another Fiverr seller. If you don’t have the time or skillset to do the work yourself, Fiverr is perfect. And at Fiverr, nothing is off limits. Fiverr has EVERYTHING.
