Fiverr is more than a marketplace where sellers and buyers transact business. It’s also an instrument of change and a destination where people transform their lives and live their dreams. No story embodies this more than Jason’s, known on Fiverr as Trademarksounds.
I’ve been involved in music all my life but never had any luck generating a steady income, even though at age 16, I was already recording the rap group Far East Movement. In fact, before Fiverr, I was actually sending proposals to artists offering to pay for the chance to work with them!
How Fiverr Came Into My Life
I heard about Fiverr through social media and decided to sign up. It took about a month to sell my first Gig®, but over time my ratings grew, as well as the amount of income I was receiving per song. More important than the income, Fiverr helped me build my portfolio and gain experience working with all genres and types of projects, including albums, mixtapes, live performance mixing, voiceovers, and audio restoration. I even sold a couple of mixing Gigs to a multiple Grammy winning reggae producer.
At the beginning, some people thought I was crazy for mixing/mastering artists for $5 per song. But I’d been involved in the music industry for 10 years, and people still expected me to work for free, so $5 per song actually started to sound pretty good. After I achieved 100 percent five-star reviews, my account got promoted to higher levels rather quickly. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to raise my rates using Gig extras and Custom Offers. The best thing is that I don’t need to pay for expensive SEO or Google Adwords. My account level and reviews alone generate plenty of traffic.
What Fiverr Has Done For My Career
Without Fiverr, I would still have very little experience or content for my portfolio. But thanks to Fiver, I now have a lot of experience and positive reviews, which led to forming a partnership to create a new studio in downtown Santa Monica. And with my Fiverr income, I was able to make some studio upgrades when I re-located, including high-end mastering equipment by A-Designs and Dramastic Audio and a JBL 5.1 Surround Monitoring System.
Working on Fiverr has also given me the flexibility to pursue other important interests. Physical and mental disabilities run in my family so I want to be active in the community. I am involved in building a disability-awareness project, @Diversability, which was founded by Tiffany Yu, Director of Business @RevoltTV. I also support a mental health foundation founded by a mentor of mine, television producer Barry Gribbon (“Born Schizophrenic,” TLC/Discovery Channel). With my new studio, I also want to create a space for Asian-American musicians to be creative without being stereotyped.
I thank Fiverr for creating a platform that has allowed me to build my reputation and gain real-world experience. I am now living my dream!
