I’ve been involved with startups since my freshman year in college about eight years ago. Since I started out, I’ve learned a lot about the art of bootstrapping. For those of you who don’t already know, bootstrapping is basically launching and growing a company on a limited budget and stretching your resources as long as possible.
My current company, Alley Boost is a startup event series that hosts mixers, panels, workshops and investor nights. I barely have time to breathe during my workday, but research, data collection and graphic design are necessary evils and that’s why I turned to Fiverr to handle these time consuming gigs. I love Fiverr because it’s the only freelancing marketplace that has a community that is willing to offer high quality services starting at $5.
One of my favorite sellers on Fiverr is, antonclevela97. Almost every startup has a awesome banner that they use at events, trade shows, etc. and attendees at my events were having trouble finding the event rooms whenever I hosted at venues with multiple rooms like universities, startup HQ’s, etc. so I hired antonclevela97 to create a banner design and I was blown away with the style and quality of the design that he put together in less than 24 hours. He was also a great communicator and unbelievably cool about revisions.
Another incredible designer on Fiverr is, mutesoft. I turned to him for business cards and he was also able to generate a great design in less than a day. Not only was was his delivery instantaneous, he also went above and beyond to understand what type of impression I was trying to get across with my business cards. I always get compliments on my business card and it really helps whenever I am networking and presenting my business to others.
Having access to Fiverr’s boundless marketplace gives me the ability to achieve my vision while remaining within my budget. Not only has it helped me to grow Alley Boost, but it’s also helped the Alley Boost community. I offer consulting services for the attendees at the events and I’ve been able to share Fiverr and it’s affordable solutions with the early-stage startups that I’ve connected with over the years. The vast majority of them are bootstrapping so adding a solution like Fiverr to their arsenal is a huge gain for them.
The words of wisdom that I have for Fiverr newbies is that you should put time into vetting the solutions providers on Fiverr to make sure that they have the ratings and applicable portfolio for the task at hand. The service providers on Fiverr are super friendly and will enthusiastically answer any questions that you may have before a job starts, so don’t be shy!
I’ve saved thousands of dollars using Fiverr and I highly recommend it to companies that are bootstrapping and want to grow a high quality company.
