Benefits of the Gig Economy Lifestyle

No one is going to tell you that the Gig Economy Lifestyle is an easy one to live. For some people, finding new clients, maintaining a steady stream of work, and being in charge of all aspects of running a small business can be a lot to take.

That being said, there are a lot of benefits to living the Gig Economy Lifestyle. We’ve been recapping our recent Tweetchat with personal finance blog Wise Bread about the rise of the Gig Economy, and many participants said that using short gigs as a way to make some extra cash was perfect for them.

Of course, extra income is one of the best things about living the Gig Economy Lifestyle. For many people, their gigs supplement income earned from a full-time job. Yes, it’s more work, but that extra income is great when it comes to things like saving for retirement, a dream vacation, or a new home.

The flexibility of the Gig Economy is another thing that many people enjoy. Sure, you can go out and find a second job at a café or bookstore, but chances are you don’t have full control over your schedule. Plus, the great part about working a gig like graphic design or web development is that it’s almost always something you can do from the comfort of your own home.

One thing most people don’t think about is the experience that working a gig gives you. Chances are, if you spent a few years taking on gigs related to one or two areas, you’ll be able to add that work to a résumé or portfolio.

But perhaps the biggest benefit of living the Gig Economy Lifestyle is the ability to follow a passion. This passion is only thing separating the Gig Economy Lifestyle from regular freelancing. The Gig Economy is all about taking some talent or pleasure you have—design, singing, gardening—and turning it into a source of income.

If you’re looking to be a part of the Gig Economy, be sure you go after projects that you love. Pretty soon you’ll be enjoying the benefits of making extra money while doing something that brings you joy.
