Behind the Scenes: Sellers Tell Us About Collaborating on the Kutiman Project

Kutiman and Fiverr’s collaboration would not have been possible without Fiverr’s community of Music & Audio talent. Incase you missed it the first time, here’s the Kutiman-Fiverr song – Inner Galactic Lovers:

After getting the inside scoop from Kutiman on the project’s conception and execution, we had to ask the musicians themselves what it was like to participate in such a unique collaboration.

How was this different from a regular Gig?

Patkins (Drums): Typically I’m asked to provide drums to a pre existing song, but Kutiman was after raw ingredients instead and was willing to trust my judgement after giving some guidance. All in all, it was a fun and refreshing way to work.

Smooth G (Sax): It was different because Kutiman sent me a drum beat and told me what scale to play in, that was it. So I had to use a lot of imagination and musical instinct to create solos from just that. It was amazing to think that at the end of this project, my solo will be blended with a keyboard player, a bass player and other musicians I do not know, have never met them, do not know where they live and never heard them play before.

What was the best part of the experience?

Marcushorndt (Fender Rhodes): “The best part of the experience was, that I was free to do (almost) anything I wanted to, but still knew in mind, that it will going to be disassembled by Kutiman and combined in a different way. That felt like, I was supplying part of the ingredients and it is going to sprout and grow.”

Patkins (Drums): I did think it was odd that he wanted video of me playing, because it’s not something I offer, but I was happy to accommodate. Once I realized how my work might be used I was very excited, can’t wait to see the final product. And, hey, its not everyday I work with someone who’s previously used Bernard Purdie. That gives me some nice bragging rights!

Marcellisfelton (Vocals): It felt new, fresh, exciting. I saw the possibilities of being one with such a project.

After working on a project of this nature, do you have any tips for sellers?

Patkins: Be open to working in different ways than you have previously, and, trust your instincts. If you have ideas that you think will work for a buyer have the confidence to suggest them.

Marcushorndt: Be true & authentic. Be sure to understand what the buyer exactly wants from you, to deliver the best fitting service you are able to.

Smooth G: Just continue to do what you are good at, what you were born to do. Stay with it.

Congratulations to all the sellers who worked on this incredible project, for a job well done!
