Alfredo, FreddyFiver on Fiverr, is a bilingual voice-over artist. On Fiverr for about three years, he’s been able to balance his love of doing creative work with earning a sustainable income. Now he’s able to explore his voracious interest in movie production and cinematography. Here’s Freddy’s story.
My Fiverr Journey
I heard about Fiverr in 2013 from a friend of mine who got a logo designed for a website. When I read about Fiverr’s philosophy, it instantly resonated with me – a place where creative people can do what they love and earn money working from home. I had to try it and sold my first Gig within about 24 hours. It was very exciting!
When I started, I threw myself at everything I thought I could do on Fiverr given my interests and the equipment and software I owned: video editing, puppet videos, novelty Photoshop work, teleprompter presenter, and a few others. Some of my older Gigs have disappeared as I learned to balance generating a reasonable, sustainable income and doing the creative work that I enjoy.
I love being chosen to be the voice behind a project. One particularly interesting job was a video web series in English that had been translated into Spanish. The buyer asked me to do a different Spanish voice for each person in the videos – including the women, which was really fun! I could tell the buyer was someone who had really enjoyed shooting the videos, and I was very happy to be a part of them.
Packages Gave Me a Boost
I track my revenue biweekly and plot everything using graphs, tracing back to my humble beginnings in 2013. I have had steady monthly growth, with seasonal dips, but when I incorporated the new packages feature, I exceeded my projected monthly revenue almost instantly by around 150%. While I can’t pinpoint all the factors that caused this boost, I can say that the only change I made was implementing this new feature.
I have to admit that at first, changing my pricing and Gig presentation felt risky, but a voice in my head said, “Every risk you don’t take is a guaranteed loss!” So I jumped in, and so far, it’s rolling along nicely.
Prior to using packages, I would have buyers message me first so I could explain all the options and prices. This back-and-forth communication slowed down the whole process. With packages, buyers can now see all my services in the form of a menu and get a quote in seconds without contacting me. It’s awesome!
Tips for Success
Focus on offering more in order to attract buyers that see you don’t have much of a reputation/credibility. In the meantime, as you wait for your sales to pick up, see where you can improve. Always be in constant learning mode. Be open to improving yourself or changing your Gig as you go along, but know why you are making the change and give it time to take effect. Be patient and don’t give up.
Dreams do Come True
It’s been a dream of mine for a decade to work from home – or at least to break away from the old 9-to-5 grind, which I am certain was not designed for me. I’ve had my share of hardships in my personal life as well as in my development as a freelancer. I came close to giving up on my dream and often considered going back to the grind.
During my first months as a seller on Fiverr and being unemployed, I didn’t know what to make of it, but when my Fiverr revenue started paying for my groceries, then for a better microphone, then for a camera upgrade, I knew it was valuable income source and I had to commit.
Fiverr changed the way I view my profession. I get to use my creativity, pretty much on my own terms, doing what I truly enjoy, offering value to anyone with an Internet connection. Today, it is a major source of income for me. I can say that I’m living the freelancer lifestyle, and I am working hard to achieve my financial goals.
Thank you Fiverr for creating a marketplace that allows us dreamers to thrive!
