Based in Calgary, Alberta Canada, UpdraftDesigns is an online graphic design service started by Patricia and her son Kris. While waiting for customers to find their new website, they decided to give Fiverr a try, unaware of the power of Fiverr® to put a business in overdrive.

Here they are to share their story.
How we got started on Fiverr
My son Kris got his a diploma in design and communication and has worked in the design field ever since. I’ve worked in several fields but have focused on design for the last few years, gaining a lot of my graphic design knowledge from Kris. We talked for many years about starting a business together, but life always seemed to get in the way. But when Kris was laid off from his job this year, we decided it was time to make it happen. We created a website, but because it takes time for the world to find you on the Web, we started looking for something we could do in the meantime to help bring in some money.
We came across Fiverr during a Google search for freelance work. We had no idea of the potential of Fiverr, but signing up was a snap and we created our logo Gig®. At first, orders were few and far between, but as soon as we added a video to the Gig, all hell broke loose. Within 30 minutes of posting the video, orders began streaming in! Because it was so unexpected, we were a bit overwhelmed, but we soon came up with a process to make sure our buyers were taken care of quickly and that our high standards were continually met.
Our business has grown by word of mouth
The only promotion we have is a link on our website to Fiverr. When you do a good job, people will find you. Once we made it to a Level 2 seller, things really took off, and we sometimes have 50 or more buyers in our queue waiting for the “perfect” logo! And even though we have been on Fiverr for only about three months, Fiverr accounts for about 50 percent of our income.
Our advice to other newcomers
When you begin your Fiverr journey, it’s best to find something quick and easy. Once you get an order, maintain contact with your buyer. Make sure to let them know you are on the job. Quick communication seems to be something our buyers appreciate. They like to be acknowledged by the person doing their Gig.
Fiverr has had a huge impact on our lives!
We joined Fiverr with no expectations of making our million but thought it was a safe place to be creative, meet new people, and make some money.
Our Fiverr experience has been exceptional. We never thought we would be as busy as we are, and we work very hard for our buyers and offer them superior customer service and awesome graphic design, whether it’s a logo, a business card or just about anything creative. We are even thinking now that we can work full-time on Fiverr.
We love working on the interesting requests we get and connecting with buyers from all over the world. When our buyers give us an amazing review, it’s very satisfying.
