Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilona, head of our fraud prevention team. Her job is to ensure that Fiverr® remains a safe and secure place for buyers and sellers to conduct their business.
Who is Ilona?
I live with my boyfriend and our cute Sharpei dog. I love French movies, especially comedies, so I really liked “Paulette,” a French comedy, it’s hilarious! I also love photography and am still thinking about how this hobby can be turned into a Fiverr Gig®.
I got into the fraud prevention field almost by accident. I was studying to become an actuary, which is someone who helps insurance companies determine how much they should charge people based on risks, but during my studies I got a part time job related to fraud prevention. I fell in love with the field almost immediately, but after finishing my studies, I started working for a large insurance company as an actuary.
After a few years, I decided to go back to what I really loved, fraud prevention, and that’s how I arrived at Fiverr. My favorite project so far is one of the first ones I worked on, adding the security question feature to Fiverr. I really feel that this feature is helping to make our site significantly safer.
I love the concept of Fiverr and recently became a seller myself. I see how Fiverr can change the lives of talented people simply by providing them with a place where they can develop and do their best work.
At first I was worried about whether I could give our users the quality service they deserve, but with the encouragement of a coworker, I decided to create my first Gig. I started with what I’m best at, statistics and Excel, and my first order came only one day after creating the Gig. The buyer asked me to help him with a multiple regression model in Excel, my expertise! I worked on the assignment for a while and sent him the file along with a short explanation. The review he provided for me really made my day and encouraged me to continue with my Gig.
Favorite Gigs on Fiverr
I love Gigs related to animated videos and caricatures, and I often surprise my friends and family with a cartoon of them on birthdays and special events. My favorite Gig so far is the grumpy cat birthday video, which I bought for a friend who I haven’t seen for years because she lives abroad. Since I was the seller’s first customer, she made it an extra fast delivery and the overall experience was terrific. My friend absolutely loved the surprise and was very excited.
