Choosing the perfect colors to convey your brand identity is a more important task than it may seem. Certain colors evoke certain emotions while expressing others. A color’s value is a representation not only of how much light and dark there is to a particular hue, but also the amount of light that a color emits. Saturation, on the other hand, is how much white, gray, or black is included in a color, which in turn affects how neutral or how brilliant it is.
Confusing, right? Luckily, if you start with a few basics, courtesy of the color wheel, you’ll be able to better understand color, color relationships, and color theory as a whole. Use this color basics 101 to decide which colors best represent your brand!
For starters, there are just three primary colors—red, yellow, and blue. Mix them to varying degrees and you get every other color in the color spectrum. Place them on a color wheel and follow certain rules—colors next to each other are complementary, for example—and you better understand how to use color in your branding and daily life.
