Getty Images® Stock Extra FAQ

We’ve received lots of feedback and questions from the community related to the Getty Images® Stock Extra. Check out the below FAQ, which addresses much of the feedback we’ve received. If you have additional questions, let us know in the comments!

What are the basics of using the Stock Extra?

The Stock Extra is offered in partnership with Getty Images®. This Extra is available for purchase on the Gig page, and sellers can also upsell it to buyers using the “Offer more extras” feature.

Here’s the process:

  • When buyers order the Stock Extra, sellers can select a Getty Images® stock photo from the gallery and download it to use in that order.
  • Sellers receive 25% of each Stock Extra, or $2.50 per image.
  • This Extra is managed on the Gig Edit page.

Why was this feature turned on automatically?

When we launch a new feature, our goal is for our community to benefit from it. We want to make that as easy as possible for our Sellers, so launching a new feature “turned on” gives the majority of our intended users the opportunity to take advantage of it.

We understand that this feature isn’t for everyone, so we give the option of turning it off.

Why did Fiverr roll out this feature with seller-selected images?

Selecting a stock image is part of the service of the Gig, and allowing sellers to select stock images means that sellers are guaranteed to select an image that works with their Gigs.

What are the benefits of Getty images® instead of other free domain stock images?

Getty Images® has advantages over free domain stock images.

  • Premium quality: Getty Images® has the best collection of stock images in the world.
  • Exclusive: These are images that aren’t available anywhere else on the web.
  • Free: Getting access to Getty images® without paying for a pricey subscription is exciting.
  • Saves Time: Streamlines the process of finding legal, quality images with ease of search.

Who owns the stock image?

The Stock Extra is to be used only in the Gig order for which it was purchased. Buyers and sellers may not use a Stock Extra image for other uses.

How should I adjust the timing of my Gig to accommodate this Extra?

Using the Stock Extra doesn’t usually make the Gig take longer, since there is no structured review process for buyers and sellers to align on the images.

Since sellers have the freedom to choose the image, they can start the work immediately upon selection of the image.

Why did we include this feature in non-design related Gigs?

Stock images can complement Gigs like articles, websites, mobile apps. We’re excited about offering this potential revenue stream to sellers in other categories.

Currently, about 25% of orders that use the Stock Extra are in non-design categories like Online Marketing, Writing & Translation, and Programming & Tech.

What’s next?

A new feature in certain writing categories offers stock to buyers in:

  • Creative Writing
  • Articles & Blog Posts
  • Business Copywriting
  • Press Releases

In these writing categories, Fiverr will offer the Stock Extra directly to buyers after an order is placed. This will only happen in the case that a seller does not offer the Stock Extra. If a buyer orders the extra from Fiverr’s offer, sellers will not receive the 25% commission they would get from a seller offered Stock Extra.
