Christian Liu & Jaume Rodriguez Get Creative for a Cause: Inspiring The Future of Tomorrow, Today.

Giving back is one of the core tenets of what we do at Fiverr. We also have an amazing creative community. So what would happen if we asked them to help us make our technology industry more diverse? To find out, we approached Ad Age and teamed with Code/Interactive, Creativity and Internet Week on a mission to inspire a new generation of diverse technology leaders. The Creative for a Cause campaign was born.

Today at Internet Week New York, we unveiled the winner of a global contest to find the most compelling original advertisement for Code/Interactive, a New York-based organization that teaches computing and technology skills to young people in underserved communities. The impressive panel of judges included the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Droga5 Executive Director Kevin Brady, Foursquare Found & CEO Dennis Crowley, Creative Director Google Creative Lab Jesse Juriga and Allison Arden, VP/Publisher of Ad Age.

More than 250 original entries from around the world flooded our inboxes.  Our judges narrowed the field to the ten best, which included a submission from a Fiverr seller. In the end, the winner was “Escape” by designer Christian Liu and copywriter Jaume Rodriguez, who hail from Ad Age’s 2015 Multicultural Agency of the Year, Alma. The duo states: “This campaign was an opportunity to use our advertising skills  and knowledge for an incredible cause. We both used to live in NY, a city very close to our hearts,  and we spent a lot of time on the subway, where we dreamed of someday having an ad of ours featured. It was a privilege to take part in this  contest, as we  believe in C/I’S mission: everyone in the US should have the same amount of opportunity, regardless their race, sex and socio-economic status. And that means having access to tech education, one of the fast-growing sectors in the economy. “

The simplicity, inventiveness, and bright colors of the ad produced by Liu and Rodriguez capture everything that’s special about Code/Interactive. And we can’t wait to share the piece with the world. The ad will appear in more than 350 New York City subway stations, beginning this summer and across multiple digital publishers on the web, thanks  a generous donation from Chiefgood.org. This means millions of New Yorkers—and the world—will see this duo’s inspiring and creative message about diversity in tech.

Congratulations, Christian and Jaume! Here’s to creating a better tomorrow for all of us by inspiring future generations.
