Celebrating Moms: Advice from a Multi-Tasking Entrepreneur

Being a mother and being a professional is not easy. Unfortunately, as much as we would like to enjoy most of our time with our children it is true that we would like to grow in our careers. Today, there are more and more women opting to freelance, work from home, or become entrepreneurs, as technology gives us the gift of flexible of working hours and space.

This Mother’s Day, we look at one woman and entrepreneur, Deldelp Medina, who speaks about the challenges of raising a family and developing a project.

Deldelp Medina:“You don’t need to know how to code to fund a technology business.”

Deldelp Medina is a Colombian entrepreneur who lives in San Francisco with her husband and daughter. She is co-founder and president of Avion (Spanish for airplane) Ventures (http://www.avionventures.com) a pre-accelerator for Latinas in the mobile tech space.

Her mission is to open the technology field to those who want to start their own companies and work at startups and companies in Silicon Valley. Deldelp ensures that you don’t need to be the one that codes to be the founder of a technology company. “What you need are certain tools for success. I want to bring those tools to Latinas with Avion Ventures”.

What is the major challenge for entrepreneurial mothers?

My time is my own, but it is also my clients. I enjoy my job although I have to work twice as hard to achieve a goal.  Ideally: I am living my dreams.

How do you organize yourself to meet both your needs as mom and entrepreneur?

We have our house organized to be an efficient machine. Our hours are well drawn out, making sure to have family time, leisure, and rest.

Advice for a mother who would like to become an entrepreneur

Motherhood has taught me patience, tenderness, joy, happiness, and love, that’s what I use every day.
