Sometimes life is too short to do things the long way, and with the number of activities you need done increasing daily, life hacks also become a necessity. Life hacks are usually strategies that are devised to manage one’s daily activities in a more efficient way, and with efficiency, comes better handling of high stress situations and overall more time to do other activities that may require more attention. We understand that it sounds a lot harder than it is, but by taking small steps and implementing one life hack at a time, you can increase your productivity quite a bit. Let’s take a look at some of the life hacks you can take advantage of to increase your productivity.
The 2-Minute Rule
If a task is handed to you for a quick turnaround and it doesn’t require too much of your time, get it done and get it out of the way. This is called the two-minute rule and it will help you get ahead quite a bit if you choose to take it seriously. Increasing productivity means you are being efficient and tackling difficult tasks while letting a smaller tasks collect will only cause you more stress. If something will take you less than two minutes, such as sending your boss that reminder email about the meeting, do it right away and then tackle the larger tasks. In the end, you’ll be much happier and your day will be efficient.
Don’t Wait Till Sunday to Prepare for Monday
Ever felt the Sunday blues? Most of the time, dreading going to work is simply because you feel unprepared for the following Monday. This is an error that can be corrected on Friday when everyone is shooting the breeze and relaxing around 4pm. Instead of preparing to go home, take a few minutes or the last hour of the day (if possible) to get ahead of your work for Monday. Think about what you’ll need to get done as soon as you come into the office. Put together materials you’ll need to hand in or work with and set up your workspace. That way, you can get a running start on Monday morning, take control of your day and increase your productivity throughout the day.
Check Your Email Three Times A Day
Check your email only three times a day and make and make sure to set certain times to do so. So if you first check it at 12 in the afternoon, check it next at 2 and continue that schedule until you get accustomed. If emails are a large part of your work, then avoid checking personal messages while doing work and apply this email rule to your personal email account. While using this rule, make sure to get to everything you need during these “sessions” to avoid checking your email too many times in a day.
Keep a Designated Notepad and Write All Tasks Down
This is one of the most important changes you can make to your workday that will help with organization of your workspace. Write things down. No need to organize a laundry list of items and list them by hour, task, or who administered them. Instead, put all of the tasks you need to get done on one list and cross things off as you finish them. Even the smallest item can be added to this list. Eventually, you’ll see that one centralized list is much easier to manage and will help you be more productive because you’ll know exactly when something needs to be done and what’s next.
Put Away Your Phone During Work
Do yourself a favor and put away your smartphone when doing work. Though smartphones can be a big help, they can also be a distraction. Chances are that checking Facebook isn’t helping your productivity at work. So next time you find yourself checking your phone when you should be working on that project due tomorrow, put it away. Make it a habit to catch yourself when you do this and then turn it off and focus. Eventually, you’ll get into a habit and avoid using your phone while working.
